From the ‘hmmm’ category comes this interesting little gem of a record I read about and naturally had to investigate today. This Tor producer cat has created a mixtape combining tunes from indie-god Sufjan Stevens and some fairly well known rap folks (including Outkast, Aesop Rock, Big Daddy Kane, and more) and is offering it up for free on the internets (link down below). I’ve gotta say that while I was a little skeptical when I first read about this on the Paste Magazine website today, once I downloaded it and listened, I totally found myself enjoying what I was listening to quite a bit. While the majority of Suf’s vocals have been taken out, the beats/samples created from his music are very cool and this all just works, surprisingly, really well.
Seriously though, who sits around and thinks about mashing rap tunes with Sufjan songs..much less actually tries to make it work? Some people are just super creative. Give this a listen if you’re into Sufjan, rap, music, or neat things. I’m totally feelin’ this, yo.
