yeah. naked people apparently grace the cover of the new sigur ros record.
so here’s what’s up, they have announced that their new record (which, in english, means ‘with a buzz in our ears we play endlessly’), will be released on june 24. it’s interesting that so many artists are going with a surprise approach to releasing their albums these days, i kinda like it. i suppose though that bands have to do something extra to drum up support and interest for their albums in this internet age. ANYWAY so they have their first single….’gobbledigook’………………………………………………………..yeah i don’t know either..for dl at their official webbysite and i am here to give my opinion of it to you.
first, this. iii love sigur ros. i think they’ve gotten better with each record and they record some of the most beautiful music there is out there. but this new song takes everything you think you knew about this band and throws it right out the window. this isn’t an epic, sweeping, beautifully crafted classic sigur ros tune. this is a whack, upbeat, clap-filled, lalalala, acoustic guitar driven song that sounds NOTHING like sigur ros (aside from that silly icelandic/hopelandic vocal stuff we’ve all come to know and love). i guess this is gonna set the stage for their new record, and i’ll admit that though i’m far from sold on this sound for them, i’m curious as to what happens on this cd. it sounds like they’ve been listening to too much animal collective and whatever else hipster indie act is making douchey songs these days. ANYway, check it out, give it a few listens, it’ll probably shock you and then appall you, then maybe grow on you. at least, i hope that’s the end result.
