1//Forza Motorsport 2, Microsoft/Turn 10
May 29, 2007
Forza 2 is the long awaited sequel to the best racer that made its way on to the original Xbox, of which I never played. I don’t really know why I never played it, I’m a big racing game fan, especially that of the sim type (i.e. Gran Turismo), but alas, I’m a 360 owner, and Forza 2 was the first one to pop up on the system, or at least the first one to look good. I’ve somehow become a big car fan over the past two years, and I like fast ones and cool looking cars and all that Jap-o-nese crap that I use to make fun of, but it’s become fun to pay attention to all of it. I had a blast buying a Saturn Ion and putting $100k into it and putting it up over 800bhp, making it capable of running alongside Lamborghini’s, it was just great fun. The career mode was way in depth and involved somewhere around 30-40 hours of game play. This game is my second highest achievement point for a game with 875. With over 300 vehicles, thousands of upgrades, dozens of tracks, and an online mode that I actually faired pretty well at, this was my favorite game of the past year.

2//Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Red Octane/Neversoft
October 28, 2007
I tell you what, there’s nothing like playing Metallica’s ‘One’ on Guitar Hero III. When I bought this game I just had to keep playing it until I reached the song, because I couldn’t wait to play that final part of the legendary song. I was introduced to the guitar game phenom earlier this year with GHII, and I was hooked. Guitar Hero III is loaded with great metal songs by Disturbed, Slipknot, Killswitch Engage, In Flames and Dragonforce, how could you not love this game? The game is nothing but pure button mashing fun, especially when you do it with two players when you start battling, good times. This game was number two for me in 2007.

3//Halo 3, Microsoft/Bungie
September 25, 2007
I’m not gonna go into detail about why this game is on this list, hell, it made more money in its first day of sale then any movie on their first weekend, ever. How’s that for video game milestones? Anyways, it isn’t a perfect game, the single person/co-op story mode is a good bit of fun, but the story just kinda lost me after a while, actually, I think it lost me in the second game, but anyways, the multiplayer is where it’s at, of course. Hours and hours of online death match equals hours and hours of fun. I still miss GoldenEye though; I want that to come to Xbox Live Arcade or something, somewhere, please?

4//Rock Band, MTV Games/Harmonix

I hate the guitar included with this game, I love the solo buttons, but other than that, I hate it. I hate the songs included on this game, I can’t really think of a great one. The drums just tire my legs out and frustrate me because I can’t hold a beat. But I tell you what I do love, getting a group of friends together to play four-player Rock Band. Cody on drums, James on bass, Brandon on the mic, and myself on guitar, brought back great memories of xXxHer Broken ReflectionxXx. We even let Jeanna and Linda in on the fun.

5//Assassin’s Creed, Ubisoft/Ubisoft Montreal
November 13, 2007
This game is the medieval counterpart to Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell. Sneaking up on unsuspecting Templars and jamming a knife in their neck, ah, bloody bliss. This game is full of killing fun. It’s also very pretty, and smooth. You can climb anywhere, and on anything. Scaling castles and jumping from the top spires to plummet into hay stacks is awe inspiring, well it least the first several times you do it. That kinda goes along with the killing thing too. The game gets a bit repetitive after doing the same thing for about 5-6 hours, it just could’ve used a bit more mission/objectives. Keep that in mind for the sequel Ubisoft.
Runners Up// Guitar Hero II, Mass Effect
Hopefuls for 2008// Grand Theft Auto IV, Tomb Raider Underworld, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
i’ve never really understood the appeal of sim car games; the whole idea of building up a car and racing realistic sorta races does absolutely nothing for me. The other day though, Linda made a comment about it that I never really thought about. Car games to some people are like baseball and madden to me. I get so much joy out of not only the actual gameplay but the free agency and contracts and all that other junk too. soo i’ve hereby softened my position on the forza’s and gran turismo’s of the world. if you like them, it’s a-ok with me.
Another new post with valid points, We have been a lurker here for a while but wish to be much more involved in the future.
