The Bear Days Of Summer Filmfest: Heavyweights

The plot summery listed on IMDB sums Heavyweights up pretty nicely…”Plump kids are lured into joining a posh fat camp with the promise of quick weight loss and good times, only to find that the facility is a woodland hellhole run by a psycho ex-fitness instructor.” Haha, ya can’t beat that.  This film is the cat’s pajamas. Not only does it have Ben Stiller in one of his most entertaining and overlooked roles..Tony Perkis..but it also had a handful of the wisecracking Mighty Ducks AAAAND the blob! The Blob! I always wanted to jump onto that thing, it looked like oh so much fun.
I never went to a summer camp as a kid and that’s cool with me because I kiiinda think it would have been similar to a living hell (unless it was like Camp Nowhere, which might be next week’s choice), but I sure did enjoy watching movies and tv shows about them when I was younger. They gave me the camp experience without actually having to go through the camp experience, ya know? But I digress.
Heavyweights is a really entertaining flick. Like I said, I loove Stiller as Tony Perkis, he plays an overbearing loony toon so darn well. I also have much love for Lars, Perkis’ main counselor dude – his character, for me, is the most quotable one in the film and I’ve been known to bust out a quality Lars line from time to time in hopes that someone else might have a glimmer of an idea of wtf I’m talking about. Whiiiich they usually don’t. Screw em.
To summarize: Heavyweights. Great movie. Go watch it.

Do any of you guys have summer camp horror stories?
