Aside from being, in my opinion, too predictable; this film wasn’t that bad. Although, I’ve never going to understand the ‘hard on’ everyone has for it, but I guess that makes me unique. In the end, it is a good movie; I just don’t see it as great.
Good Points: Direction, Casey Affleck, and Amy Ryan
Bad Points: Writing, Predictability, Obvious Morgan Freeman/Ed Harris roles, and little bit of editing.
Nothing makes me think ‘trying to hard’ than seeing Morgan Freeman AND Ed Harris in a film together. Not only are they feature co-stars, BUT they are both playing *gasp* tough, grizzled cops/detectives/officials. Well I suppose we should be happy that neither one of them is playing the president. Although, Mr. Freeman is playing the ‘Captain’
Aside from that, Casey Affleck and Amy Ryan both shine in this movie. (Note: I give Casey Affleck 3 more films before I get sick of him and his calm/cool demeanor.) Their performances hold this movie together and make it fun to watch; despite it’s forced predictability. Despite that, it is still worth a view. And who knows? maybe all of you will like it as much as EVERYONE else did.
