As our annual Maystache event slowly approaches it’s finale, today’s stache is one of the more famous in musical history. Freddie Mercury, the late legendary singer of Queen, rocked one helluva stache and I’d like to think it helped him achieve rock & roll divinity in some tiny way.

So with today being fiveo of mayo and that typically meaning people wanna party and drink and do all that sorta thing, what better time to post about the party pioneers themselves, the Village People! Nothing says good times like a VP song and nothing says Maystache like that biker dude in the group. Just look at that thing. Wow. Cowboy and construction man are rockin’ a little somethin’ too, and the cop and army dude (?) have goatee action going on too, so props to them as well. But uh, Tonto, wtf man? Just because you have war paint and feathers on your head doesn’t mean you can just coast on by without having a mustache. I dare say that any other self-respecting man in the stache-happy ’70s shoulda and probably did kick your ass once or twice for that shit. I mean, cmon dude.

Stache Of The Day: Keith Hernandez (The Sequel)

I know that most of you are still probably hungover or sleeping thanks to the killer Maystache parties that went on all over the country yesterday/last night, but that won’t stop me from continuing the Maynia here on day 2!

We begin today with the first stache of the day of the month! Yay!

Last year, good friend of the Maystache, former New York Met and Seinfeld star Keith Hernandez, got things kicked off with a bangorama by introducing the event for us here on BEP. I kinda figured it would be wrong if I didn’t give him the chance to do it again, so, take it away Keith!

Hello there to all of you fine people out in the land of the internet, my name is Keith Hernandez. Last year, Mr. Brandon gave me the opportunity to crack the bottle of champagne over the Maystache Maynia event and really get it off to a rip-roaring start like only Keith Hernandez could. This year, I’m kinda angered because he did not ask me to come post on May 1st. I mean heck, I’m Keith Fucking Hernandez, how dare I get pushed to the 2nd. Grievances aside, I am honored to be the very first ‘Stache Of The Day’, because as you all should know, I have one of the best mustaches in the world. I mean, just check out that picture I just took of myself in the dugout for you guys (ok actually I didn’t take it myself, I had Darryl Strawberry do it, but still). I just got back into the dugout from using my super ‘stache powers to sock a home run grand slam and I’m so amped up that I had to light up a smokestick just to keep myself from running back out onto the field and doing cartwheels down the third base line. Cause I’m Keith Hernandez and I rule the universe. Me FTW. Anyway, my mustache gives me super powers and if you grow one this month, it will no doubt do the same thing for you. I can’t say it will make you an athletic and television superstar like Keith Hernandez is, but I can say that it might. So, grow one. Cuz Keith Hernandez says so.

Eff You, Swine Flu

Earlier today, I promised you all the BEP guide to avoiding coming down with the dehabilitating disease that is SWINEEEE FLUUUUU. I come through with my promises. It’s really a very simple procedure. First of all, there are 3 things you must avoid…

1. You must avoid hanging out with other dudes who have swine flu.
2. You must avoid hanging out with pigs with swine flu.
3. You must avoid hanging out in Mexico with Mexicans who have swine flu.

If you can complete these 3 steps, I think you’re gonna be alright. BUT if you wanna be 100% positive you’ll be swine flu-free forever, there is one SURE FIRE antidote….

Grow a mustache! You see how happy that dude right there is? He’s stoked because he knows he is equipped with the best front line defense mechanism possible against this pandemic of a disease thing. A mustache, you see, is made up of tiny hairs that are able to collect and trap all Swine Flu germs and keep them from getting in your nose! Awesome! Once trapped, the germs get all bummed out and are left with but one option – leaving your face and moving on to some other poor sucker. Sucks for them, but rules for you.

Trust me. It’s true.

It’s so simple, it’s almost stupid that the tv is making it such a big deal. Follow my 3 rules and grow a mustache and you’ll be good to go.

It’s Time For MAYSTACHE MAYNIA!!!

For one year (or at least 11 months), you have waited for this moment to come once again. I know you have. I have too. Today is May 1st, and that can only mean that the time has come to begin the month-long celebration of one of the most awesomely awesome things in the world, the mustache. If you were around these parts last year, you already know how badass things can get. I mean, it’s a whole month of posts dedicated, almost solely, to the ‘stache. Your favorite features will return once again..things like ‘Stache Of The Day, the Maystache edition of Things That Suck, and even the super sexy Girls Of Maystache..and if that’s not enough for ya, I’m sure we’ll be hittin’ ya with some fun new stuff too.
Additionally, a few of us here around BEPland will be growing Maystaches of our own and sharing them with you as the month goes on..if you’re a dude out there, we totally encourage you to get into the spirit of things and do the same..you can even take pics of your facial masterpieces and send them to bearseatpeople@hotamail.com aaand you will be featured here on the website! How jealous would that make all your friends? Oh and ladies, just because it’s frowned upon in society for you guys to have staches of your own doesn’t mean you can’t join in the fun. Just send in a picture of yourself with a kickass stache, real or otherwise, and you can be part of the Girls of Maystache feature and LET ME TELL YOU it drives the boyz wild. Soo, do it.

It seems that in addition to wearing their throwback gear this coming weekend, the entire team has made it a point to grow mustaches in tribute to niners gone by. If that doesn’t kick ass, I don’t know what does.
