First Aid Kit – ‘Emmylou’

I think I tweeted about these ladies a while back, but I still really love the song (and the whole album for that matter) so I don’t think it’d hurt anything to post it here for realz. I first came across them about a month or so ago when this song was mentioned as one of the best songs of 2012 thusfar by Paste (I think). Come to think of it, that’s the first time I heard of Of Monsters & Men too, which is another swell (albeit rather Mumford-y) band but tis a different story for a different day. Anyway, so I gave this FAK record a try and was pleasantly surprised by how damn good it actually is. They’re pretty young, but these girls sound like they’ve been at it for a loooong time. If you’re into stuff like Neko Case, Bright Eyes, et al – give this a try.

“Emmylou” is taken from “The Lion’s Roar”, the acclaimed second album by these folksy Swedish sisters that was released back in January.

mewithoutYou – “Fox’s Dream of the Log Flume”

mewithoutYou’s new album “Ten Stories” was released today, and as expected, is wonderful.
It’s a solid mix of the “old” and “new” mwY sound, complete with all the lyrical creativity that one might expect from Aaron Weiss & crew.
If you’re curious about the overall lyrical theme, well, it’s about a traveling circus & a train crash in 19th century Montana.
If you’re anything like me, you’re thinking “OMG IT’S ABOUT FUCKING TIME SOMEONE MADE AN ALBUM ABOUT THAT!”

anyway, here’s a nice tune that features that broad Hayley from Paramore I think. CHECK IT! IT’S OLD SCHOOL!

7 Horns 7 Eyes – ‘Divine Amnesty’

Oh hey there. It’s been a minute.

Does anyone still actually visit this site anymore?

No? K, cool.

So I haven’t been terribly impressed with much of the music that I’ve heard in 2012. Maybe it’s because I simply haven’t listened to all that much new music ORRR maybe it’s because a lot of the music I have heard has been subpar. Either way, I have found myself really enjoying new cd by a band called 7 Horns 7 Eyes. It’s called ‘Throes of Absolution’, it was released a few weeks ago, and it’s brutal as hell.

Honestly, 85% of the time stuff like this is almost too metal for me [shut up, I'm getting old] because I’ve never been all that huge on death metal deep growly vocals, but good lord I’m all about this album.

Wretched has been churning out solid metal for a while now and Son of Perdition is no different. There’s really nothing amazing about it, just good solid death metal. It’s defiantly worth checking out. Two thumbs up!

As Long As We’re Talking About Songs I Love..

..I’ve gotta say that if you’re STILL sleeping on The Weeknd, you’re an idiot.

I loved all 3 of his/their mixtapes back in ’11, but the ‘Echoes of Silence’ record came out too late in the year for me to add it into my year end list. In fact, correct me if I’m wrong (actually please don’t), but I don’t think I ever talked about the 3rd record here on BEP. So, for the sake of this post, we’ll assume that this is the first time I’ve mentioned this album & the first time I’ll mention how badass the following song is.

One of the more underrated yet awesome Michael Jackson songs is ‘Dirty Diana’, so it’s fitting that The Weeknd’s cover, ‘D.D.’, is incredible….
